Brilliant moment

I definitely need to record this fabulous moment:
We were doing the trump questions for fun within the center. When coming to the question"who is the greatest celebrity within your team", Sir Ian Wilmut walked onto the stage immediately. Then apart from laughing, nobody dare come as the second.
I guess till now the host still doesnt know he is the famous Dolly's father.

thoughts during olympics

Many people think Chinese athletes are robots, if not drugged. Otherwise it cannot explain how they can accomplish such excellent performances within short period, like at this Olympics. Sometimes Chinese students are unable to escape from this stereotype either, if we could have this honor. Well, I don’t have evidence to fully deny it just as you cannot prove to me either that European students are all studying willingly and freely. But I do believe for those reaching the world top level, their success must contain the personal interest and passion factor. Here is another reason that can also partially explain why Chinese or Asian, can be so determined and self-disciplined to endure extremely harsh training, just like robots. It is that we hate to let people we care about down when representing one group, like class, institute, country to compete. The responsibility to defend group reputation is emphasized a lot in the Asian culture. The expectation from the family, teachers and peers can be endless motivation, sometimes also tremendous pressure meanwhile.

Dumplings People and Love2

After entering the university, thousands of miles away from home, I can still remember the first big event in our class is making dumplings, to celebrate the Mooncake festival, which for most of us, means the first time being away from parents and having brand new life here. That night was crazy. Distinctive shapes of dumplings, varying from the north to the south, among different families, or just some instant creations, gave us tremendous joys which made us feel like having known each other for ages. I bet, at that moment, the dumplings stood for a wish or a belief, that we would spend the eight years all-together like brothers and sisters. Indeed, six years later we were awarded with the best group prize from our university. Then it’s time for me to say goodbye.

Now I am here, even further from home. From time to time, some friends would still arrange some gatherings to make dumplings. For us, it’s a good way to update everyone’s recent stories and also treat ourselves with some hint of home flavor. More than often, the huge pack of frozen dumplings standing in Chinese supermarkets would fulfill some of our desire temporarily, however, for sure it can never catch up with the homemade one, or we call “mum brand”. I used to think my mum’s the best, however after trying some of my friends’ mum’ s, could only comment as most Chinese mums are super dumpling-makers. May be it’s because that they stay in the kitchen long enough to be good at it. However, only after reading some news did I get to know I was absolutely wrong.

It’s an interview on the most popular dumpling restaurant in the town. When the journalist asked the boss, an ordinary middle-aged woman whether she has any secret recipe to make her dumplings super yummy, she answered with a very big smile only shining on mum’s face, “my only son’s favorite is dumplings made by me, but he is too busy to have them often. So my running this small restaurant is special for him, whenever home my dumplings are always hot on the table.”

Well, with so many stories and memories, I admit that I have begun to miss dumplings, as well as those related people and feelings.

Dumplings People and Love 1

Once my colleagues asked me to make dumplings for them but without giving me any help, I refused at once. Apart from the realistic factors, I was quite surprised to realize I have such a natural and strong rejection to the idea of making dumplings alone, which bothered me to think about for quite a while. Well, this confusion only got clarified after seeing the Chinese documentary series “A bite of China”, a piece of fabulous work leading us to re-consider our food, people and culture behind in a more sensational perspective. Now I know the image of dumplings rooted in my mind is not merely a delicious food.

At my grandparents’ period, dumplings were very luxury dinner that could only be afforded till Spring Festival. Due to the deficiency of materials, the filling of dumpling was usually a mixture based on whatever vegetable left at home and freshly bought pork. Then the entire family would be motivated at once, some making the dough, others mixing the filling, then everybody would sit down to make dumplings together. So at that time, the dumping stands for very brilliant wishes containing lots of typical Chinese philosophy. For instance, by mixing something from the old year with some stuff from the new year, together with the whole family’s hard working, the heaven would continuously award us a fantastic life in the future.

As days getting better and better, dumplings have appeared on our dining table more frequently, with various flavors to choose. However, the only thing that hasn’t changed in my family is that everyone would be involved. Even when my dad was busy with work, mum and I would make dumplings together then send to him. I think in my memory dumplings equal to a family entertaining activity.

HAHAHA

One poem by my previous roommate and rearranged by myself:

My heart is on fire

The gastric acid roaring below

Only one heart I have

Burning, sobbing,

Begging, scratching

……
……
When telling one of my colleagues with the medical background about this, he asked immediately “Does your friend have the gastroesophageal-reflux ?”

One moment’s silence, then followed by big laughters.

How could I tell him the last line of it is actually “I need a roll, NOW!!!!!

Happy Labour’s Day:P

Sorrow or happiness

These days, keep exchanging attitudes with others and it’s fabulous!

If you have to work late in the lab, what will you do or how do you feel? Endlessly pathetic, empty or worried enlarged by the entire room in which you can hear your own heart beat? Before that night, I always felt my way to handle that is the best, calm down and focusing on the work as planned, if possible, entertaining myself silently when waiting. However, even doing all these cannot kick out of the slightly residual worries because the silence all through the center is too scaring. But one night my colleagues’ choices inspired me quite a lot.

He firstly went to the gym before starting the night work. Then after arriving, he opened the computer broadcasting his favorite songs. I can clearly remember, when the first note played, the whole atmosphere was sparkled all of a sudden. My chilled mind was also inputted by strands of fresh energy. As for the anxiety, I even didn’t know where it’s from.

Then I cannot help thinking that if late work is inevitable sometimes, why not break down this still and turn it into a sole party, after all this time and space is all yours?

Well, recently love the tune ”Sorrow or Happiness ” crazily, put it here and never forget to love yourself^-^

Why I cannot add music here:(

Sweet life

After coming here, my eye field on the sweet has been dramatically improved. Compared to the astonishment when first see putting chocolate, marshmallow and sugar on the pancake at the very beginning, right now I have been able to deal with this as easy as possible.

For instance, the pancake night in our lab was a lot of fun, also a big sweet test to me. The flour had already been added with sugar, milk, butter, chocolate as well as all sorts of berries. However, when serving, they would still go with cream, jam, maple serum and ice-cream.

Well, can it be sweeter?

At first I thought my sweet knowledge has peaked that night. However, after the international communication, now the top sweet level would be peanut butter plus honey. OMGGGG!!

BTW: I always wanted to put up some pics to show Edinburgh’s spring is coming. Well, those daffodils are much prettier when closer look.
